An elusive but attractive British Bird!


Taxonomic name: Garrulus glandarius

UK Status: Common, found in and around woodland habitats

This species is distinct for its white rump and strips of striking blue on the wings. The live mostly in woodland habitats and are widespread throughout the UK, predominantly feeding on seeds and insects. However, they have been known to feed on small mammals.

The reach up to 35cm in length, with a wingspan of up to 58cm.

These birds can be spotted throughout the year. The picture taken for this article was taken in March 2022 halfway down the farm! It was a very lucky spot, and I got as close as possible.
