It is not currently known when mains electricity will be restored to the buildings

Emergency generators have been brought in to supply power to 1,000 properties in Tamar Valley.

A spokesperson for Western Power Distribution (WDP) said two separate faults had caused power cuts in the Calstock and Cotehele areas of Cornwall at about 9pm last night.

Engineers worked through the night to identify the cause of the outages, which is believed to be down to underground cable faults, said WDP.

Once the faults are located, the cables will need to excavated and repaired, and the affected properties will remain on emergency generators until this done.

The spokesperson said Calstock is likely to be restored to mains electricity first, but no timescale for this is currently available.

"We are sorry for any inconvenience," added the spokesperson.
